Freedom fighters celebrate Africa Freedom Day

Freedom Fighters in Chipata have observed that Zambians are now free to mix with Europeans following the scramble for Africa from the colonial rulers.

Chipata District Freedom fighters Secretary Mathews Kilion Tembo, told Breeze News that things have changed after the scramble for Africa as Zambians are now free to mix with people of other races in class and places of work.

Mr. Tembo says it is important to celebrate Africa Freedom Day because the country is now free.

Mr. Tembo says 25th May is celebrated as Africa Freedom Day to remember the day when African leaders went to Addis Abba Ethiopia to make the OAU, Organisation for African Union in 1963.

He says it is because of the struggles that African leaders went through in kicking out the Europeans that has resulted in most countries being free.

And President Edgar Lungu this morning led dignitaries in laying wreaths in memory of foreign heroes at the Freedom Statue in Lusaka.

This year’s 54th, Africa Freedom Day is being celebrated under the theme “Harnessing the demographic dividend through investment in the youths”.

Chief Mwanya of the Chewa speaking people has died.

Chief Mwanya of the Chewa speaking people of Lundazi district has died.

Chief Chanje of the Chewa speaking people confirmed the death of Chief Mwanya to Breeze News.

He says Chief Mwanya died in the early hours of Wednesday at Chipata Central Hospital after an illness.

He says the body of Chief Mwanya, which was lying in the Chipata Central Hospital Mortuary, will be taken to Lundazi district today.

Chief Chanje says burial for Chief Mwanya will take place on Monday next week at his palace in Lundazi district.

Meanwhile Paramount Chief Kalonga Gawa Undi is shocked with the death of Chief Mwanya.

Executive Member of Education and Publicity Committee of the Chewa Royal Establishment Lucas Phiri say that the paramount chief said that late chief assisted in uniting traditional leaders in his area.

And the Patriotic Front Party PF in Eastern Province says that it is deeply saddened with the death of the traditional leader.

Provincial Chairperson, Andrew Lubusha says that the ruling party mourners with the Chewa people over the untimely death of Chief Mwanya.

Patriotic Front Party advises bus operators

The Patriotic Front PF Party in Eastern Province has appealed to long distance bus operators to ensure that drivers have enough rest.

Vice Information and Publicity Secretary Chembe Daka says that the party has observed that most drivers do not rest after driving long distances.

Mr. Daka says that some drivers drive between Chipata and Lusaka almost every day, putting the lives of people at risk.

He says that the buses are also not serviced because they are on the road every day.

Mr. Daka says that bus owners should be interested in protecting the lives of passengers unlike only being interested in money.
