Some contractors that are working on big road projects, which have stalled in Eastern Province, have disappointed government.
Eastern Province Permanent Secretary, Chanda Kasolo says that government did not expect that such projects would stall for such a long time.
Speaking to Breeze News this morning, Mr. Kasolo says that none of the projects were tide to consistent release of funds by government.
He says that companies that were contracted to work on roads like Chipata-Chadiza, Chadiza-Katete and Chipata-Vubwi are big companies, which should have kept the projects moving until government funds them.
Mr. Kasolo says that the decision by the companies to suspend works since 2014 means that government will spend extra money as the state of some of the roads has worsened.
He however, says that government is making all efforts to ensure that it mobilizes resources to resume the works.
The permanent secretary says that government is hoping that works on all stalled road projects will commence soon.
