DEC nabs two farmers in Lundazi for cannabis

Two small-scale farmers have been arrested for trafficking in cannabis in Lundazi district.

The Drug Enforcement Commission, DEC has arrested Paskali Phiri, 32, of Kajiwa Village and Andrew Mtonga, 45, of Chipharika Village in Lundazi District.

The two have been arrested and jointly charged for trafficking in 87.2 kilograms of loose cannabis concealed in polythene sacks.

This is according to a press statement released by DEC availed to Breeze News.

And in Lusaka, DEC has arrested a businessman for fraud involving 58, 000 Kwacha.

Joseph Munshya Mutale, 40, a businessman of Libala South has been arrested for personation of person named in certificate, obtaining of credit by false pretences and uttering of false documents contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that Joseph Munshya Mutale on May 31st, 2016 jointly and whilst acting together with other persons unknown, with intent to defraud, impersonated Fredrick Bwalya, a Quantity Surveyor at the Ministry of Works and Supply.

He uttered false documents which included payslips, a forged NRC Card, bank statements from a named bank and an introductory letter from the Ministry of Works and Supply Human Resource Department.

Mutale used the forged documents to obtain a loan by false pretences amounting to 58, 000 Kwacha by purporting to be a public officer under the mentioned Ministry when in fact not.

DEC says all suspects will appear in court soon.
