Delay by government to distribute inputs worries farmers in some parts of Lundazi district

Delay in the distribution of subsidized farming inputs has worried farmers in Chief Mwase’s area in Lundazi district.

Speaking to Breeze News, Chimaliro Ward Councilor John Kamanga says that small scale farmers in the area have not yet started accessing the inputs up to now.

Mr. Kamanga states that despite government’s pronouncements that small scale farmers will receive inputs early this year, this has not been the case.

He noted that the process of distributing the fertilizer and seed at the Ministry of Agriculture was too long adding that government needs to simplify the system.

Mr. Kamanga complained that further delay in giving the farmers inputs will negatively affect next year’s maize production in the area.

But Acting Lundazi District Agricultural Coordinator, Frederick Mwansa says that his office is ready to start the distribution and is waiting for co-operatives to conclude documentation.
