The Chipata Magistrate Court yesterday heard how A 57 year old man of Chipata was swindled of 18,000 Kwacha by three
people pretending to be witchdoctors who could bring the dead to life.
Testifying before Mercy Chabu was John Mvula who is the former principal at Chipata College of Education.
Mr Mvula narrated that he heard news on a named radio station that one person had resurrected from the dead in Lundazi.
He said he went to the radio station and was given the phone number of Daniel Banda who was said to be the father to the resurrected child.
Mr Mvula said he met Byson Phiri 33, Madalitso Mbewe 29 and Yohane Phiri popularly known as Dr Major who came from Malawi’s Nkhata Bay so that they could also assist raise his child Diana who died in 2012.
The men demanded for 20,000 Kwacha payment but failed to fulfil their promise until their scam was unearthed.
Byson and Madalitso were charged with five counts of obtaining money by false pretence contrary to the laws of Zambia while Phiri is still on the run.
Magistrate Chabu adjourned the matter to April 21st for
continued trial while the accused have remained in custody.
