Government has decided to engage another contractor to complete works at Chikando Day Secondary School in M’tenguleni area of Chipata district.
Provincial Education Officer, Allan Lingambe told Breeze News that this is because the previous local contractor has failed to complete the project.
Dr. Lingambe says the construction of Chikando Day Secondary School which started in 2011 has stalled for about five years due to delayed funding.
He says plans are underway to give another contractor who is ready to complete the works this year so that the community in the area may start utilising the school.
And Dr. Lingambe added that a contractor constructing Chasefu Secondary School in Lundazi district is facing similar challenges of delayed payment resulting in works moving at a slow pace.
The PEO however, says government is ready to fund some of the stalled projects under the Ministry of Education in the province this year so that they are completed.
He says that once the department receives funding, the money will also be used to complete some works at Eastern Girls Secondary School, Kasenengwa and Kacholola Boarding schools that were opened prematurely.
