Meterological Department advises farmers not to panic over rains

Farmers in Eastern Province have been advised not to panic over the showers experienced in the past few days.

Provincial Meteorological Officer, John Londolo, says the weather being experienced does not signal the start of the rain season.

He says farmers should wait because planting rains have not yet started and that the soil moisture cannot support crop germination.

Mr. Londolo says the weather is being influenced by moist easterly winds coming from the equatorial region.

In the past few days, parts of Eastern Province have experienced heavy showers, prompting some farmers to wonder whether it is the start of the rain season.
