The Movement for Multi-Party Democracy MMD says that President Edgar Lungu was duly elected.
MMD Provincial Chairperson, Jacob Mwanza says that it is therefore treasonable and seditious for anyone to claim not to recognise him as head of state.
Mr. Mwanza told Breeze News this morning that Zambians and the international community have all recognised President Lungu as duly elected leader.
He has advised district commissioners to assist provide copies of the Zambian Constitution to citizens so that they can understand that once someone has been sworn in as head of state, no one can refuse to recognise him.
Mr. Mwanza says that he is aware that some people are issuing statements out of ignorance, but that under the law ignorance has no defence.
He says that while he understands that it is painful to lose an election, Zambians are now more interested in seeing government and members of parliament deliver development.
Mr. Mwanza observed that people are facing so many challenges such as luck of access to clean water, long distances to schools and clinics and poor roads that need to be addressed.
