New street lights being vandalised in Chipata

Some unscrupulous people have started vandalising street lights being installed on Umodzi Highway in Chipata even before they start operating.

Chipata Municipal Council Town Clerk, Davies Musenge says that unknown people are removing armoured cables, which they are selling to hardware stores.

Mr. Musenge says that the council would have switched on the street lights in areas where Mota Engil has finished working but are being discouraged by thieves.

He says that the council is installing the street lights in partnership with Mota Engil adding that all the streets lights will start operating when works are completed.

Mr. Musenge says that the local authority is spending 1.3 million kwacha on the street lights project.
