New teachers told to be professional

The newly recruited 695 teachers in Eastern Province have been urged to abide by the public service code of ethics.

Eastern Province Assistant Secretary, Loyd Tembo says teachers should exhibit high levels of professionalism and ensure that they save the government of the day.

He was speaking during the induction ceremony of the 695 new teachers in Chipata this morning.

Mr. Tembo added that his office has been receiving numerous complaints on the poor conduct of some teachers.

He says teachers should discharge their duties in accordance with the terms and conditions of service, guided by the conduct of public service workers because they are role models and agents of change in society.

Mr. Tembo explained that the standards of education in the country have continued receiving a lot of criticism and the new teachers have the duty to change the perception.

And speaking at the same ceremony, Provincial Education Officer, Allan Lingambe urged the new teachers to be good ambassadors and contribute to national development.

Dr. Lingambe cautioned the teachers against conduct that may jeopardise their career.
