Only 34 females will contest local government elections in Eastern Province.

Only 34 out of the 527 candidates contesting local government seats in Eastern Province in the August 11 general elections are female.

This represents only 6.45 percent.

And out of 39 mayoral and district chairpersons candidates, only five are female, representing about 12.8 per cent.

Lundazi has three while Chadiza, Mambwe, Nyimba, Sinda and Vubwi all do not have female candidates for the district chairperson.

This is according to data derived from the final lists of candidates published by ECZ, the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
