Prisons reach agreement to offset K1 million water bill

Eastern Water and Sewerage Company EWSC has asked the prisons department in Eastern province to start paying a minimum of 5,000 Kwacha for each prison towards offsetting the over one million Kwacha that the department owes the company.

Company Public Relations Officer Henry Kashoki has confirmed.

He explains that the agreement was made following the intervention by government to stop the company from disconnecting water supply to sensitive institutions like the prisons.

Speaking to ZANIS, Mr. Kashioki noted that Eastern Water and Sewerage Company depends on payment of bills in order to operate effectively.

He says government is aware that the company is being owed a lot of money by different departments.
