Six candidates to contest Rukuzye ward seat

Six candidates have successfully filed in their nomination papers for the November 17, Rukuzye Ward by-election in Chipangali Constituency.

The candidates are from MMD, the Movement for Multi-party Democracy, PF, the Patriotic Front Party, PAC, the Peoples Alliance for Change, UPND, United Party for National Development, FDD, Forum for Democracy and Development and UNIP, United National Independence Party.

Isaac Tonga is contesting on MMD ticket, John Zulu on PAC ticket while Sam Banda is contesting the seat on the ruling PF ticket.
Others are Zagwa Phiri for UPND, Maliro Gondwe for FDD and Ignitious Nyasulu for UNIP.

Election Officer Jane Mwale opened the nomination centre at exactly 09:15 hours and closed at 15:15 hours after all the candidates had filed in.

The nominations, which were incident free, were characterized by beating of drums, singing of songs and ululating in praising candidates.

Rukuzye Ward did not hold elections on August 11 after the only candidate Wilson Tembo died in the run up to the election.
