Teachers panic over academic ultimatum

An ultimatum given to civil servants in some government departments to upgrade their academic qualifications by next year, has sent panic among some teachers.

Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia BETUZ District Chairperson Kondwani Nyimbili however, says that there is no need for teachers to panic because the ultimatum does not affect them.

Mr. Nyimbili told Breeze News that the union has sort clarification on the matter and were assured that teachers are not affected.

He however, says that teachers who fall under the union have been upgrading their qualifications to ensure that they offer quality education.

And Mr. Nyimbili has commended teachers in Chipata district for their professional handling of examinations.

He says that the union did not receive any reports of teachers indulging in examination malpractices.

The BETUZ District Chairperson has appealed to teachers to maintain their professionalism in handling examinations as pupils are almost finishing writing.
