The number of gender based violence cases in Eastern Province has increased.

Cases of gender based violence GBV are on the increase in Eastern Province.

Young Women Christian Association YWCA Coordinator Dorothy Ndhlovu says that the province recorded 184 cases in January and 216 cases in February.

Mrs Ndhlovu revealed that among the cases is incest where parents have slept with their own daughters and even made them pregnant.

She challenged women to expose husbands who abuse their daughters stating that such men need to go to prison so that they can reform.

And Mrs Ndhlovu indicated that YWCA expects an increase in GBV cases during the crop harvest and marketing season because this is the time when families experience a lot of differences.

Mrs Ndhlovu explained that in rural areas families only have money once after harvesting their crops, which leads to misunderstandings.
