Vubwi district has been declared an Open Defecation Free area.

Vubwi district has been declared an Open Defecation Free ODF area due to high sanitary standards exhibited by residents who have built toilets for safe disposal of faecal matter.
Local Government Deputy Minister Nicholas Banda says the district becomes the second in the country to be declared Open Defecation Free from Chiengi in Luapula Province.
Speaking when he called on the Eastern Province administration in Chipata this morning, Mr. Banda said that people in Vubwi district have improved sanitary conditions.
He noted that Chief Pembamoyo’s area is now among the ten chiefdoms that have been declared ODF.
Mr. Banda stated that treatment of diarrheal diseases which are as a result of careless disposal of faecal matter and poor sanitation is costly to government especially during the rainy season.
And Assistant Secretary Beenzu Chikuba said that there is need for other chiefdoms to learn from those that have been declared ODF areas.
Ms Chikuba noted that Chief Pembamoyo’s area is the second chiefdom to be declared ODF area after Chief Madzimawe in Eastern Province.
