553 hectors of crop fields affected by army worms within a period of two weeks in Eastern Province.

Five hundred and fifty-three hectors of fields were affected by army worms from December 26th 2013 to January 2nd 2014 in Eastern Province.

And Provincial Agriculture Co-ordinator, Obvious Kabinda says that 502 farmers have been affected with army worms in Chipata, Nyimba, Petauke and Katete districts.

Dr. Kabinda however, says that the damage on the crops is not severe as most crops have continued growing.

And Dr. Kabinda says that the Ministry of Agriculture in the Province has controlled the army worms that had broken out.

Dr. Kabinda says that the province has sprayed all the affected fields and has stopped receiving any new reports.
