A 28 year old man electrocuted in a suspected suicide case in Chipata

A 28 year old man has died after being electrocuted on a 66 KV ZESCO power line between Chipata and Msoro sub station, in a suspected suicide case.
ZESCO Regional Manager, Joseph Chilongo and ZESCO Operations Engineer, Friday Sichikandawa confirmed the incident to Breeze News.
Mr. Sichikandawa explained that he received a call from the Fire Brigade yesterday around 09 hours that a man’s body was hugging on the ZESCO tower.
He stated that when ZESCO officers reached the scene, they found the body of the man identified as Mabvuto Mbewe of Katukulila village hugging on the tower.
Mr. Sichikandawa says that the officers had a tough time removing the body, which resulted in interruption of power supply for almost five hours.
He says that ZESCO had to ask NCC, the National Control Centre to switch off power supply to Chipata so that they could remove the body.
And efforts by Breeze News to get a comment from Eastern Province Police Commissioner, Engine Sibote failed by News time.
