A 49 year old woman of Lufeyo village in Chief Mlolo in Chadiza district has been raped and murdered by unknown people.
The woman identified as Macrina Banda is believed to have met her fate on Monday night.
Eastern Province Deputy Police Commissioner Alfred Nawa says the victim is believed to have been murdered after a drinking spree with other people on Monday.
He says that police visited the scene and suspect that Macrina was strangled to death and her body dumped in Nsandzu stream, which was three kilometres away from the scene.
Mr. Nawa further told Breeze News that police suspect that the woman was raped by the assailants.
And police in Chipata have launched a manhunt for a man suspected to have defiled a 14 year old girl of Chituwo Farm.
Mr. Nawa says the incident, which was reported to police by the grandmother of the girl, Flyness Ndhlovu 62, happened on Tuesday around 16:00 hours.
