A 68 year old woman of Ndainga Farms in Paramount Chief Mpezeni’s area in Chipata has been burnt to death after her house was gutted by fire on Wednesday evening.
Eastern Division Criminal Investigations Officer, Christopher Kanema confirmed this to Breeze News.
Mr. Kanema says Daina Jere met her fate when she was sleeping alone in her asbestos roofed house around 18 hours and left the candle burning which fell on the clothes and spread to the whole house.
Mr. Kanema says police picked up the body which was severely burnt and is currently lying in the Chipata Central Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy and burial.
Meanwhile three people are nursing serious injuries in Chipata Central Hospital after being involved in a Road Traffic Accident which occurred on Tuesday evening along Chipata- Lundazi road.
Mr. Kanema says the accident happened when a driver of a Toyota Corolla, Richard Chisi aged 36 of Referendum area in Chipata, who was carrying six passengers, tried to overtake a truck.
He says that in the process, he tried to avoid hitting an on-coming vehicle but lost control and overturned.
Mr. Kanema says that the driver with two passengers, were seriously injured and are admitted to Chipata Central Hospital while the other three passengers are out of danger.
