A 90 year old woman murdered by her two grandchildren on witchcraft suspicion

A 90 year old woman of Nyimba district has been murdered by her two grandchildren for suspecting her to be practicing witchcraft.

Eastern Division Criminal Investigations Officer, Christopher Kanema who confirmed the incident says Eunice Zulu of Dunken Village in Chief Ndake’s area met her fate on Saturday as she was sleeping around 22 hours.

Mr. Kanema says police received a report from Agnes Zulu aged 60 that her mother was beaten by her two grandchildren, Edwin Sakala aged 39 and Lukungwe Sakala aged 37 after suspecting her a witch.

He says Ms Zulu sustained bruises on the face and a deep cut on the neck and died, while a sharp instrument is suspected to have been used when beating her.

Mr. Kanema says the body is currently in Nyimba district hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem and burial while the two suspects are on the run.

Meanwhile a 52 year old man, Michael Jere of Walela compound in Chipata was on Friday morning found dead at his neighbours door step, Joyce Chitambo.

Mr. Kanema says Tembo was bleeding from the nose and police discovered blood in his room, which is adjacent to the place where he was found.

He says police suspect no foul play.

And police have launched investigations in a matter in which Tamara Phiri aged 49 of Chikwanwa Village in Chief Mbang’ombe’s area in Katete was shot at by unknown people.

Mr. Kanema says Tamara Phiri was rushed to St. Francis Mission hospital and is out of danger.
