A businessman in Chipata is attempting to get land, which government has earmarked for huge investment.

A businessman in Chipata is trying to reclaim 712 hectares of land, which government has earmarked for development.
Eastern Province Permanent Secretary, Chanda Kasolo has confirmed the development to Breeze News.
Mr. Kasolo says that government acquired 712 hectares of land, which previously used to be a dairy farm but the businessman has rushed to Lusaka to obtain title deeds for the land.
He explained that the named businessman had a 14 years lease to the land, which expired some years back without him making real investment on it.
Mr. Kasolo, however, says that he is shocked that someone alerted the businessman about government’s intention to develop the area.
The permanent secretary says that government has already decided on the matter and will use compulsory seizure if the businessman attempts to block government.
Mr. Kasolo explained that the land in question will be developed to create over 2,000 jobs as ZNS, the Zambia National Service intends to put up a milling plant while Zam Capital, a government parastatal intends to put up an animal feed manufacturing plant and 600 houses.
