A contractor engaged to rehabilitate Nsole Deep Tank in Vubwi district at a cost of 150 thousand Kwacha has abandoned the works.
Vubwi District Livestock and Fisheries Coordinator, Masiye Banda confirmed to Breeze News that no works have been done on the site since 2014 when Matunga Enterprise was awarded the contract.
Dr. Banda says the contractor has only been on site once, since the contract was awarded, two years ago but did not do any works.
Dr. Banda says the contractor will be reported to relevant authorities if it does not finish the works by the end of this month, adding that the contract risks being terminated.
He explained that the contractor was supposed to provide 25 per cent of their own money for starting the works, after which the government will fund the project.
Dr. Banda says the Deep Tank is very important for the district which is prone to various animal diseases since it is at the border of two countries, Malawi and Mozambique.
And when contacted for a comment, Matunga Enterprise Director, Alice Sakala confirmed not doing the works saying this is due to none payment from the government.
