A contractor threatens to suspend township road works in Chadiza

A contractor upgrading township roads in Chadiza district has threatened to suspend works if he is not funded within three months.
Avex Project Manager, Kenneth Odur says that the company has faced serious challenges because government has not released money since last year.
This has affected the construction of the 18 kilometres township roads, whose tarring works are moving at a slow pace.
Mr. Odur told Breeze FM Correspondent in Chadiza, Christopher Banda that out of the total sum of 102 million Kwacha, only 28 million Kwacha has been released.
Mr Odur also confirmed that workers at Avex have worked for four months now without receiving their salaries because of delayed funding from government.
He says that the company had employed over 150 workers at the beginning of the contract but due to financial constraints, only about 40 workers have remained.
Mr. Odur explained that the construction works now stand at 65 per cent but the company is failing to buy materials such as cement, bitumen and fuel.
