A group calling itself Kum’mawa for Edgar Lungu has called on voters in Eastern Province to ensure that they participate in the August 11 general elections.
Team leader, Colonel Panji Kaunda says that previous elections have revealed that people in Eastern Province do not vote despite being registered voters.
Speaking during Political Hour Programme on Breeze FM this morning, Colonel Kaunda says that this is not the case with people in Southern Province.
He explained that statistics show that more than 90 per cent of registered voters voted in last year’s presidential election in Southern Province while only about 6.9 per cent of voters voted in Eastern Province.
Colonel Kaunda further stated that Southern Province currently has 812,590 registered voters while Eastern Province only has 377,379 registered voters.
He says that his group wants to ensure that more people vote in Eastern Province to give President Edgar Lungu a better chance of winning the August 11 general elections.
Colonel Kaunda dismissed statements that his group is promoting tribalism by soliciting for regional support for Mr. Lungu stating that everyone needs regional support like what UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema is getting from Southern Province.
Meanwhile Colonel Kaunda has charged that the combination of UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and his running mate Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba is a danger to Zambia.
He says that it is clear that the UPND is a party that treasures rich people, stating that UPND Vice President for Politics, Dr. Canicius Banda was left out from being picked as a running mate because he is poor.
He urged Zambians to vote for President Lungu stating that he has managed to perform despite the country being affected by global economic challenges.
