A man fined 25 thousand Kwacha for importing medicine or allied substance without permit.

The Chipata Magistrate Court has fined a 48 year old man of Lusaka, 25 thousand Kwacha for importing medicine or allied substance without permit.
Appearing before magistrate, Philip Mphundu, was Richard Kasunka of Mandevu Compound in Lusaka.
Particulars of the offence are that Kasunkha on the 30th of August 2013 in Chipata imported, 13, 050 Blister packets of Coartem, 10 containers of Fansida, 88 anti-rabies vaccine packets, 21 X-ray films and 5 small x-ray films without permit.
And in mitigation, Kasunka told the court that he was taking the medicine to Congo DR, because he needed money as his children are not yet at school.
He further explained that he is looking after his young sisters who are also not going to school because of lack of money.
And in passing judgement, Magistrate Mphundu said that he had considered Kasunkha’s mitigation but noted that the accused acted in a bad manner because medicines are supposed to be handled by professional pharmacists.
Magistrate Mphundu fined Kasunkha 25 thousand kwacha to be paid before September 30. The medicine and medical implements have been forfeited to the state.
