A 72 year old man from Lumezi area in Lundazi district has died while two others have been hospitalised after consuming a concoction made by a witch doctor.
Provincial Police Commissioner, Eugene Sibote told Breeze News that the elderly man, Lastone Banda, 72, of Mtonga Farm and two of his other colleagues were accused of bewitching other people by the witchdoctor, Zakeyo Lungu whose trading name is Nzimbi Yamoto.
Mr. Sibote says that the three were challenged to drink a concoction to prove their innocence, and that immediately after taking the potion, the three started to vomit and had diarrhoea.
He says that upon noticing this, the witch doctor fled the scene, whilst the three were taken to Lumezi Hospital where Mr. Banda died.
And Mr. Sibote has warned that it is against the laws of Zambia for people to practice witchcraft, adding that the culture of accusing the elderly of bewitching others should be condemned.
Meanwhile, a 35 year old man was over the weekend killed in a hit and run accident in Mfuwe area of Mambwe district.
Mr. Sibote says that the accident occurred on Monday around 18:50 hours.
He however, says that the driver of the car was later caught after the vehicle was found dumped in a nearby bush.
