A problem of infrastructure has hit most schools in Ongolwe Ward in Petauke Central Constituency.
Breeze FM Staffer, Peter Frank Banda reports from Petauke that Ward Councillor, Roy Tembo says these schools do not have enough classrooms.
Mr. Tembo revealed that Mondola Primary School, which has two by two classroom blocks, is a major concern as one of the classroom blocks was declared unsafe by the Ministry of Education.
He says that the classroom block, which was condemned, has a broken roof and cracked walls and is a serious danger to pupils.
Mr. Tembo also bemoaned lack of accommodation for teachers.
He called upon government to build classroom blocks in the six schools so that lessons are not disturbed during the rainy season.
Meanwhile the councillor has called upon government to build health posts in the area, stating that Mumbi Rural Health Centre is the only health facility catering for a population of over 10,000.
He says that people have to cover long distances to access medical care.
