The Chipata High court this morning sentenced a Malawian and a Zambian to death by hanging for two offences of murder and aggravated robbery.
High Court Judge Petronella Ngulube sentenced Mike Phiri aged 20 of Kamwendo area in Malawi and Anold Zulu aged 21 of M’chini Compound in Chipata to death by hanging on the neck until pronounced dead by a qualified medical doctor.
In the first case, Zulu and Phiri on February 27th 2016 whilst working together murdered Rebecca Daka aged 27, a wife to a teacher at Chiziye Primary School in Chipata.
In the second count, Zulu and Phiri on February 27th 2016, whilst working together stole a Toyota Vits, cell phone and solar panel amounting to about 37 thousand Kwacha, property of Richard Daka, a teacher at Chiziye Primary school.
Justice Ngulube says nine witnesses testified to the case and the court was satisfied with the evidence given, despite the two earlier pleading not guilty to the offence.
She says the two offences committed by the two were serious since they knew what they were doing and sentenced them accordingly.
