Government has disbursed about 1 million Kwacha under Social Cash Transfer to 5,760 beneficiaries of the scheme in the first quarter of 2015 in Chipata.
And 84, 000 Kwacha has been given as loans to 191 rural women in Chipata under the Village Banking Program to finance their income generating activities.
Assistant Secretary, Beenzu Chikuba confirmed this to Breeze News.
She added that a total of 350 poor but viable households in Chipata benefitted from fertilizer under FSP, the Food Security Pack in the 2014/2015 farming season.
Ms. Chikuba says that the programs are government’s efforts aimed at reducing poverty and vulnerability among its population.
She says that it is through such interventions that government reaches to the vulnerable people in society.
