About 2000 jobs have been created out of the 40 solar milling plants that are operational in Eastern province.
Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo says out of the 240 plants that were allocated to the province 40 are operating at full capacity while others are at various stages of completion.
They are expected to be fully operational by August this year.
Mr. Kasolo told journalists in Chipata today, that some of the
recruited staff is undergoing training on how to operate the
machines.
He stated that government is also setting up a repair and
maintenance facility which will be housed at the industrial cluster in Chipata district.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kasolo has disclosed that the Eastern province is expected to record a bumper harvest during this year’s harvest season.
He says that according to the crop survey that he and agriculture staff conducted across the province, the crop looks good and promising.
He says that this is a good indication because the province will be able to produce enough to supply all the milling plants.
Mr. Kasolo added that once all the milling plants are operational mealie meal prices are expected to reduce.
