Zamleaf Tobacco Company has come to the aid of farmers who were stuck with their produce after obtaining loans from TBZ, the Tobacco Board of Zambia.
Eastern Fodya Association of Zambia EFAZ Provincial Chairperson, Franklin Mwale has confirmed to Breeze News.
Mr. Mwale says that Zamleaf has agreed to buy over 150,000 kilogrammes of tobacco produced by the 250 farmers.
He says that the farmers who are EFAZ members have been given two weeks in which to ensure that they sell their cash crop to the company.
Mr. Mwale says that the farmers had collected 600 bags of fertilizer from TBZ to assist them grow tobacco.
And Mr. Mwale has appealed to other merchants to assist independent tobacco farmers, who are still stuck with their produce.
He says EFAZ will also lobby the companies to buy the crop from independent farmers after finishing off with the EFAZ farmers.
