Two people have died in a fatal road accident involving an ambulance on the Chipata-Lundazi road.
Eastern Province Medical Director, Abel Kabalo has confirmed the incident which happened in Lumezi area around 11:30 hours yesterday.
He says that the ambulance was ferrying patients from Lundazi Hospital to Chipata Central Hospital for further medical investigations and management.
Dr. Kabalo says that the ambulance had a total of eleven passengers including the driver, a nurse and relatives to the patients, when it had a tyre burst, resulting in the driver losing control of the vehicle, which over turned.
He says that one of the relatives died on the spot while one of the patients died upon arrival at Lumezi Hospital.
Dr. Kabalo says that the driver, other patients and relatives sustained minor injuries from bruises and scratches while the nurse escaped unhurt.
