An official border post to be constructed in Chief Mwanjabanthu

An official border post is expected to be constructed between Zambia and Mozambique in Chief Mwanjabanthu’s area in Petauke district.

This was disclosed during the Provincial Epidemic Preparedness, Prevention, Control and Management Committee meeting held in Chipata yesterday.

Immigration Officer Bernard Mbewe told the gathering that officials from Lusaka were in Petauke district to inspect the places where the border post will be constructed.

Mr. Mbewe says the province is awaiting recommendation from Lusaka to start the construction of the border post.

He says this follows the Immigration Department writing a letter to the Provincial Permanent Secretary’s Office to lobby for the construction of the official Border Post between Mozambique and Zambia in Chief Mwanjawanthu’s area.

Meanwhile Nyimba Correctional Centre has been operating without water from the time the submissive pump was stolen from the institution.

Eastern Province Regional Commander, Chief Superintendent Moses Chipokolo says his officers will next week go to Nyimba district to fence the Correctional Centre before replacing the stolen pump in a bid to secure the institution from thieves.

And Eastern Province Assistant Secretary Royd Tembo assured the gathering that his office will notify the permanent secretary to lobby for funds towards the rehabilitation of the boreholes at Nyimba and Katete Correctional Centers.

Mr. Tembo said this after it was revealed that the Correctional Centres have accumulated huge debt in unsettled water bills to Eastern Water and Sewerage Company.
