An outbreak of Amy Worms, locally known as N’chembele Zandonda that attack crops is reported to have hit some parts of Chief Chinunda’s area in Chipata.
This has forced some farmers in the area to ask the Ministry of Agriculture to quickly visit the area and assess the situation.
Alick Banda a farmer told Breeze News that people are worried that cereal crops including maize maybe affected.
Mr. Banda told Breeze News that this may further lead to poor yields.
Amy Worms are caterpillars that attack crops, especially cereal crops such as maize, rice, sorghum, millet.
Efforts to get a comment from the district agricultural office failed by News time.
