Anglican Diocese of Eastern Zambia Bishop, William Muchombo says that the death of Cardinal Merdado Joseph Mazombwe is a big blow not only to the Catholic Church but to the whole nation.
Bishop Muchombo says that Cardinal Mazombwe’s position was a great honour to the country, which made him contribute more to the development of the nation.
Speaking to Breeze News, Bishop Muchombo says that the country has been robbed of a great man who was a voice of the voiceless.
Cardinal Mazombwe died on Thursday afternoon at UTH, the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka.
He was appointed Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church in November 2010 and has previously served as Bishop for Chipata and also Archbishop for Lusaka among other positions.
Until his death he was Zambia’s only Cardinal for the Roman Catholic Church.
