Armed robbers have stolen 45,000 Kwacha cash, a vehicle and a pistol after attacking a 32 year old businessman of Mwami border trading area.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner, Alex Chilufya confirmed to Breeze News that Godfrey Sakala was robbed of cash amounting to 45 thousand Kwacha, a Toyota Premio and a nine millimetre pistol by unknown armed men wearing face masks on Friday around 19 hours.
Mr. Chilufya says Sakala reported to the police that eight armed men followed him from Mwami border trading centre to his house in the same area and pointed a fire arm at him as they smashed a front rear window of his vehicle.
He says the robbers then drove him five hundred meters from his house where they tied him up and drove away with the vehicle as he shouted for help.
Mr. Chilufya says police visited the scene and recovered the stolen vehicle and car keys in M’chini extension area on Saturday.
He says police are yet to establish what type of fire arm the thieves were using as investigations are underway.
The Police commissioner warned people against moving with huge sums of money to avoid being attacked.
And a 75 year old man of Chief Mphamba’s area in Lundazi district was discovered dead in a trench after leaving home for beer drinking on Saturday.
Mr. Chilufya named the deceased as Mapeya Lukhele and the matter was reported to the police by his brother, Isaac Lukhele.
He says police suspect no foul play as his body had no physical injuries adding that the man had poor eye sight, which might have led him into falling in a trench.
