At least forty-seven stray suspected rabid dogs have been shot dead by Lundazi District Council.
Council Environmental Technician, Regina Banda says that the exercise to eliminate the dogs is being carried out in conjunction with the Zambia Police, Prisons and Ministry of Health.
Ms. Banda says the exercise is aimed at reducing the cases of human dog bites, which have become rampant in the district.
She indicated that recently Lundazi District Council embarked on community sensitisation in which dog owners were advised to vaccinate their dogs against rabies.

Ms. Banda further explained that pet owners are supposed to secure their vaccinated dogs within their premises from 05 hours to 22 hours daily failure to which the local authority will not hesitate to implement the dogs’ act, which allows them to shot dogs roaming the streets.
And Ms. Banda says that one person is not allowed to keep more than five dogs.
Meanwhile the community in Lundazi is happy with the move taken by the council to shot all stray dogs.
