Breeze FM Managing Director and Station Owner, Mike Daka has advised widows not to be consumed by self-pity and doubt.
Speaking during a motivational talk in Chipata yesterday, Mr. Daka noted that despite challenges, which widows might be confronted with, getting better and staying better is an attainable goal for each and every one of them.
He noted that there are always second chances in life if a job or marriage fails or if a spouse die, adding that life is too short to be wasted.
And Mr. Daka challenged the widows to take up volunteer work as a way to re-energise themselves and feel good about doing something without getting paid or credit for it.
He explained that when people volunteer, they get back a whole lot more than they give.
Mr. Daka revealed that a research shows that people who volunteer live longer, have stronger immune system, have fewer heart attacks, recover from heart attacks faster, have higher self-esteem, and have a deeper sense of meaning and purpose than those who don’t volunteer.
He noted that the research also shows that people who volunteer in their younger years are more likely to end up in more prestigious and higher paying jobs than non-volunteering counterparts.
Mr. Daka also advised the widows to consider testing new part-time and full time vocations.
