The Council of Churches in Zambia, CCZ in Eastern Province says the decision by Reverend Dr. Clement Mwanza of the RCZ, Reformed Church in Zambia Chipata Central congregation to join politics has no blessings from the Church mother body.
CCZ Eastern Province Chairperson, Reverend Sonye Banda told Breeze News that the Church mother body has disassociated itself from Dr. Mwanza’s decision to join politics because it is non-partisan.
Reverend Banda says CCZ was not consulted by Dr. Clement Mwanza or any member of the RCZ on his decision to be involved in active politics.
Reverend Banda says CCZ does not support any member of the Clergy to be involved in active politics because they end up confusing their followers.
He says the role of the church in politics is to be neutral and seek Gods guidance as they pray for peace and unity of the nation.
Reverend Banda however, wished Dr. Mwanza well in what he termed as his personal decision to express his freedom of association by joining politics.
RCZ Chipata Central congregation Reverend, Dr. Clement Mwanza last week filed his nominations as running mate to FDD presidential candidate Edith Nawakwi in the August 11th general elections.
