Chadiza, Chipata and Vubwi districts to face hunger by October this year.

Three districts in Eastern province will run out of food at household level by October this year.
This follows a crop assessment conducted by the Zambia vulnerability assessment committee under DMMU, the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit in Chadiza, Chipata and Vubwi districts.
Zambia vulnerability assessment committee member, Adrian Phiri told Breeze News that Chadiza district is the most affected with poor yields this year.
He says that crop assessment conducted, shows that most people in Chadiza did not grow maize but soya beans and the water table in the district is too low to support the crops following a dry spell experienced in the district last year.
Mr. Phiri says that Vubwi district has also been affected followed by Chipata which has Luangeni Constituency as the most affected area.
Mr. Phiri added that 46 districts countrywide have recorded poor yields due to the severity of last year’s dry spell and their livestock’s have also been affected.
