Chadiza District Council gets tough on illegal street vendors

All illegal traders in Chadiza district have been ordered to vacate areas that are not designed for markets.

Chadiza District Council Secretary Kennedy Kazanda says that according to the law, all traders should trade in habitable, safe and certified places.

He told Breeze News in Chadiza that the local authority encourages people to do business in line with the law.

Mr Kazanda stated that a taskforce has been formed to look into issues of illegal trading in the district.

He warned that the council will not hesitate to confiscate merchandise for street vendors who will decide to ignore the directive.

Mr Kazanda has also warned bar owners in the district to comply with the trading hours.

He says that bars are not supposed to operate beyond 22:30 hours because it is a violation of the law.
