Chief Mphamba of the Tumbuka speaking people in Lundazi district has called on government to educate his subjects on its plans to extend the township boundaries.
Speaking during the Kulonga Traditional Ceremony yesterday, the traditional leader observed that people in the area have been developing a negative attitude towards him as they feel neglected.
The traditional leader further stated that there is need to educate people to sacrifice their land for developmental purposes of the district, which is currently growing at a fast rate.
And Chief Mphamba appealed to government to consider drilling a borehole at the main arena of the Kulonga traditional ceremony.
He also asked government to tar the stretch of gravel road from Mphamba junction up to Mphamba village and palace.
And Local Government and Housing Minister, Dr. John Phiri has directed Lundazi District Commissioner, Mukule Banda, Lundazi District Council Chairman, Aaron Manda and Acting Patriotic Front Chairman, Mushota Nguni to help deal with the extension boundaries of the township.
Dr. Phiri also advised Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo to help source for money for a borehole meant for the main arena of the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Dr. Phiri disclosed that Lundazi District Council and Petauke District Council are soon to be made municipal councils.
