The number of cases of child marriages in Chipata has gone down.
Speaking in an interview with journalists, Chipata District Commissioner, Kalunga Zulu, has attributed the drop to the efforts by chiefs to penalize those marrying off their children at an early age.
Mr. Zulu, however, revealed that in some cases, it has been the children themselves, pushing for early marriages.
He says that there is need for more sensitization in the fight against the vice, to ensure zero tolerance.
And commenting on the construction of the pre-fabricated health posts in the district, Mr. Zulu says that works have reached an advanced stage.
He added that the district hospital is now at roof level under phase two.
