Chipata Central Hospital to start handling complicated medical cases.

The upgrading of Chipata General Hospital into a Central Hospital will see a reduction in a number of referral cases to UTH, the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka.
Provincial Medical Officer, Abel Kabalo told Breeze News that most cases that were being referred to Lusaka will now be handled within the Central Hospital.
Dr. Kabalo says government will this year install state of the art machines at Chipata Central Hospital.
He says plans are underway to set up a City Scan machine, which will be used to scan human body, adding that the hospital will have all the needed laboratories for various tests.
The provincial medical officer added that government will also construct an eye clinic and all departments at the hospital will be manned by specialists.
Dr. Kabalo explained that the hospital was elevated to a Central Hospital because it had already started operating under central status by handling complicated cases.
He says the hospital already has a mammogram machine for breast cancer screening and conducts cervical and prostate cancer screening tests.
On Thursday this week, Health Minister, Dr. Joseph Kasonde declared Chipata General Hospital as a Central Hospital and promised to improve infrastructure and human resource at the health institution.
