Chipata Community Abattoir accused of carelessly disposing waste.

Chipata Community Abattoir is discharging waste that has been described as a danger to people’s health in the district’s industrial area near Chipata Motel.
The discharge of waste from slaughtered animals is also finding its way into Lunkhwakwa stream.
Speaking to Breeze News, people in the area complained that apart from the waste, the abattoir was also burning animal skin and hooves that were also producing a stench.
They wondered how council health workers and officers from Ministry of Health were visiting the abattoir every day to certify the meant without noticing the health hazard.
And a Breeze News team that visited the area had a tough time comprehending the scent of the discharge running through a drainage system up to the stream.
But when contacted for comment, management at the abattoir said that they have not received complaints over the health hazard from the community in the area.
Works Secretary, Thulason Ngwira said that they would only take measures to address the matter if they receive an official complaint from the residents.
