Chipata District Land Alliance concludes demarcating over 43,000 hectares of village boundaries

Chipata District Land Alliance has concluded demarcating 43,226 hectares of village boundaries in Four Chiefdoms.
Land Alliance Coordinator, Allan Kasongo confirmed to Breeze News that 134 villages have been demarcated in Chief Maguya, Mnukwa, Mkanda and Mshawa.
Mr. Kasongo says that out of about 43,000 hectares, about 16,490 comprise of 6,300 parcels of registered land with about 5,800 joint landholders.
He added that some of the land comprises of communal resources such as graveyards, forests, dambos, and natural woodlands.
Mr. Kasongo says Land Alliance is now doing verification of demarcated parcels under Objections and Corrections phase adding that land owners will be issued with certificates through traditional leaders.
He says that the next exercise which is the third award will start in June 2017 and end in November 2018.
