Chipata Municipal Council directed to find a lasting solution to the serious shortage of water at Mwami border.

Chipata Municipal Council has been directed to find a solution to the serious shortage of water at Mwami border.
Speaking when he visited the border to assess the situation, Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Development, Charles Zulu, said that he was in the area to verify reports of water problem.
Mwami Border Immigration Officer, Robson Shanungu, told the minister that the area completely runs out of water during the dry season because the boreholes dry up.
Mr. Shanungu also said that due to the increase in the population in the area, the four hand pumped boreholes which supply water are inadequate.
He says the same boreholes are source of water for people in nearby villages.
And Mr. Zulu who is also Luengeni Member of Parliament said that there is need to install new water tanks.
He asked Chipata Municipal Council Community Development Director Chama Mulenga to ensure that the old water tanks are replaced with new ones.
