Chipata Municipal Council gets approval to upgrade an additional 35 kilometres of township roads.

Chipata Municipal Council has received an approval to upgrade to bituminous standard an additional 35 kilometres of Chipata Urban roads.

Council Spokesperson, Taonga Kaonga told Breeze News that the approval of the third variation order has seen an increase in the contract sum, from the previous 111 million Kwacha to 153.5 million Kwacha.
Ms. Kaonga says the contract period for the road works is 8 months from the date of the Variation Order approval on September 14th 2015.
She says Sable Construction Company will continue working on Chipata Motel, Kafula, Kawalala and M’chini-Magazine roads.
Ms. Kaonga says the works will include putting up street lights, drainages, rehabilitation and periodic routine maintenance of roads.
And on the controversial Katopola-Chizongwe road, Ms. Kaonga says that the road still remains a challenge to be worked on until further consultations are done.
