Chipata Municipal Council has received a grant of one million Kwacha rebased from the ministry of Local Government and Housing for the extension of the civic centre.
Chipata Mayor Goodson Thole says the extension of the civic centre would add beauty to the town of Chipata as it was moving towards the attainment of a city status.
The mayor disclosed this during the official opening of second ordinary council meeting held in Chipata yesterday.
He says that so far works have been advertised for the bidders in order to design the structure component of the council.
Mr. Thole says that the local authority has also received 230,580 Kwacha rebased from NRFA, the National Road Fund Agency for the improvement of traffic signals.
He further indicated that the Ministry of Local Government and Housing has allocated 500,000 Kwacha rebased to be released to the council for street lighting.
Mr. Thole says the local authority was also in the process of putting paving bricks on 70 kilometres stretch of streets which would be done in liaison with RDA, the Road Development Agency.
